What is Text Compare?

This is invaluable for writers comparing document revisions, developers checking code changes, or anyone who needs to spot what changed between two versions of a text.
The Text Compare tool (also called a diff checker) lets you compare two blocks of text side by side and instantly highlights the differences between them. This is invaluable for writers comparing document revisions, developers checking code changes, or anyone who needs to spot what changed between two versions of a text.
Our diff checker uses a line-by-line comparison algorithm. Lines that appear only in the original text are highlighted in red (removed), lines that appear only in the modified text are highlighted in green (added), and lines that are identical in both are shown unchanged.
The tool also calculates a similarity percentage — showing you at a glance how similar the two texts are. A 100% similarity means the texts are identical; lower percentages indicate more differences. You can also download the diff summary as a text file for your records.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the similarity percentage mean?
The similarity percentage tells you how much of the text is identical between both inputs. 100% means the texts are exactly the same. 0% means they share no common lines.
Does it compare word-by-word or line-by-line?
Our tool compares line by line, which is the most useful mode for comparing documents and code. Each line is treated as a unit of comparison.
Can I compare code files?
Yes. The text compare tool works perfectly for comparing code. Paste your old and new code snippets into the two boxes.
Is there a text size limit?
There is no hard limit. However, very large texts (over 10,000 lines) may take a moment to process since everything runs in your browser.
